Wellness Corner - Lunchbox Blues

Now that children are back to school you may be looking for opportunities to keep their lunches from getting boring. Consider mixing up sandwich styles by alternating bread with items such as English muffins, pitas, or whole-wheat thin bagels. Or, go breadless and include filling lunch items such as hummus with celery and carrot sticks, or tuna salad with crackers. Always be sure to include healthy sides such as frozen grapes, or mandarin oranges. An important factor when choosing refrigerated items is to ensure they maintain proper temperatures until lunchtime. The food danger zone occurs when temperatures are between 40 to 140 degrees. Keep foods cool by freezing a bottle of water or juice and placing it in with the lunch items.
