Unified Named Small Business of the Year Finalist
November 11, 2009. Unified Group Services is pleased to announce their selection as a top finalist in the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce’s November 2009 Small Business of the Year Award. This marked the second consecutive time Unified Group Services has been a finalist. Unified ranked in the top six finalists out of a field of dozens of nominees from around the state of Indiana. “We are proud of the ongoing efforts of all the winning companies and the small business community at-large. These companies impact all of us. They contribute to many working families’ income, to the prosperity of respective communities and to the entire state’s economic competitiveness,” stated Indiana Chamber President Kevin Brinegar.
Unified Group Services is a third-party administrator providing health, dental, vision, and short-term disability benefit administration services for self-funded companies. They also offer online benefits manager for their members and an industry leading medical management and wellness program. Unified currently handles over 26,000 employee lives and 56,000 covered lives.
Unified Group Services, Inc. was founded in 1996 in the sunroom of the home of owner and president, Richard L. Mousty. Working along side with co-founder, Faith Hailey, Unified quickly outgrew the sunroom and moved into offices in Pendleton, Indiana. In February 2004, Unified relocated to their new 13,000 sq. ft. facility in Anderson, Indiana. By 2008, the company had added 9,000 sq. ft. to its existing facility in order to provide the space needed for current and future growth. Differentiators such as a dedicated claims account managers, low staff turnover, 5 day claims turnaround time and a live answer phone operating system has enabled Unified to grow, and also maintain, their client base.
The company provides jobs for over 110 employees from around the Anderson/Madison County area and is now considered one of the major employers in the Anderson area. The company’s culture and employment practices have allowed them to maintain a very low employee turnover rate. Not only is Unified committed to its employees, it also is a benefactor to a number of community organizations. In the Anderson/Madison County area, Unified has supported, either through direct donations or fundraising activities, the St. John’s Children’s Clinic, Alternatives, Inc., The Christian Center, South Madison Community Schools, the Jeremy Rodecap Foundation which provides scholarships to Pendleton High School students and the YMCA. Unified has been an avid supporter of the YMCA Corporate Challenge which supports wellness and physical fitness in the Madison County community. As a result the company has won the small business division award in 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2007.
Unified Group Services was ranked as the “4th Largest Indianapolis Area Employee Benefits Services Firm” in 2006, 2007 and 2008 by the Indiana Business Journal. UGS was also listed by IBJ as one of the “Fastest Growing Indianapolis Area Private Company” for 2001-2002, 2002-2003 and 2003-2004.
